Gambling in Reno, Nevada

Struggling to have its own identity from its neighbor Las Vegas, Reno, Nevada is the “Biggest Little City in the World. ” Located in western Nevada, Reno is about 10mi (16km) from the California border, just off the I-80. The Truckee River runs through downtown Reno - most of the casinos are to its north. The railroad tracks also cut through Reno's version of Glitter Gulch, adding a lovely touch of incongruity.

Downtown has been the site of some serious redevelopment in recent years - one pleasant addition is Riverwalk, a pedestrian path, which follows the river all the way through downtown.

Reno Orientation
Most of the casinos in Reno are clustered in the downtown area along or near Virginia Street. The area is rather compact, making it easy to walk from one casino to another.

The Reno Hilton, Peppermill and Atlantis are located a few miles south of the main downtown casino area.

Sparks, Nevada, which is only a short drive east of Reno on I-80, is home to John Ascuaga's Nugget and the Silver Club Casinos.

Boomtown Casino is located west of Reno on I-80 on the way to California. It is the first casino upon entering Nevada if you are coming from California.

Reno Casinos
Casinos in Reno are much more business-like than those in Las Vegas. The 'theme casino' is just starting to make its presence felt, and you're much more likely to be offered a combination of gambling and occasional entertainment than a three-ring circus with dancing girls. The esteemed Harrah's is one such traditional casino, still one of the biggest and fanciest, and one of the best places to watch a lot of people lose a lot of money.

Harrah’s
Wall-to-wall luxury and heart-pounding excitement all come together at Harrah’s. Located in the heart of downtown Reno, Harrah’s has Reno’ biggest jackpots in 65,000 square feet of table games and slots. Along with a new High Limit Salon area and Reno’s highest table limits, Harrah’s takes the gaming experience to an all-new level.

The Peppermill
Selected one of the "Top 10 Casino Hotels in America" by MSN and Citysearch, the Peppermill is Reno's Premier Hotel Casino. The Peppermill Poker Room has been named one of the top 25 in the USA by Poker Digest.
