While Las Vegas may be the glitter capital of the world, Atlantic City casinos can clearly hold
their own. In addition to world-class hotels and resorts such as the Trump Plaza, Hilton, and
Taj-Mahal, in Atlantic City you will find the world famous boardwalk and sunny beaches.
Don't forget to try the world famous delis for
famous Atlantic City Hot Dogs.
Trump Plaza
Located right on the Boardwalk, next door to Caesar's, the Trump Plaza opts for an intimate, more elegant feel than its huge neighbour. The Trump Plaza trades on its location, in the heart of the action, and attached to the Atlantic City convention center. It also caters to the Asian market with a new, Asian oriented casino annex, Shangri-La, featuring games such as pai-gow and baccarat.
Rather than being all things to all people, the Trump Plaza looks to serve market niches. The new Shangri La casino pit emphasises Asian games and food. Table limits and minimums are set higher to encourage the high roller. On the other end, the Plaza has an extensive bus and air package network. Entertainment tends to be somewhat spotty here but there is a wide variety of dining options.
Atlantic City Hilton
Located at the south end of the Boardwalk, the Atlantic City Hilton Casino boasts 804 rooms and suites, many with panoramic ocean views. The hotel has a Four Diamond Rating. The Hilton is one of the most elegant properties in town and promotes itself as a beachfront resort/casino. The interior is decorated with Italian marble and bevelled gold glass. Murals hung throughout the property celebrate the history of Atlantic City and the Steel Pier.
Trump Taj Mahal
The Trump Taj Mahal was the first multi-billion dollar casino to come to Atlantic City.
Originally a project started by the owners of Resorts, Donald Trump bought the company then sold Resorts to Merv Griffin. The Trump Taj Mahal now defines gambling in Atlantic City. Many of the day-trippers to Atlantic City never stray too far from the Taj because of it prime location. The casino is located across from the Ocean One Mall and many of the Boardwalk’s other highlights.
Besides all the activities near the Taj Mahal, inside is even more impressive. The casino floor is full of gaudy colors and over-the-top design and the gaming at the Taj is amongst the best in the city. The poker room is particularly lively, offering lots of action in a nice room. The Taj Mahal’s poker room was featured in the 1998 movie " The Rounders" starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton. In addition to the renowned poker room, there are plenty of slots and table games. However, it gets crowded on weekends, making low limit tables rare.
Be sure to check the Atlantic City Yellow Pages and find out what's available.
